Why invest in a high-end product such as an IRON pump, only to allow third-party overhauls with non-genuine parts?

“In our service department, we see some disastrous examples of bearing heating problems, for instance, because of poorly executed pump overhauls with non-genuine parts”, explains Per Gudmand Jensen, Service Manager, IRON Pump A/S and continues, “it may be that internal measures do not comply with standards or IRON construction design or the impellar is made of a lower corrosion resistance than our Aluminium bronze. Perhaps a poor coating inflicts flakes of coat to float in the system, causing clogged coolers, valves, filters, and other system components”.

Often, we even see that the pump has been modified to fit the non-genuine parts and, in these cases, you can almost be certain that neither new non-genuine parts nor our genuine parts will fit. This means that the crew will have to spend time modifying parts and pump again and hence other crucial maintenance on board might be neglected. This is the screw without end and ultimately the pump will break down with no option to repair.
