IRON Pump News in Brief

Beware of parts that look the same

Why invest in a high-end product such as an IRON pump, only to allow third-party overhauls with non-genuine parts?

By using non-genuine and less expensive spare parts, you might face serious consequences for your pump installation and in the end, the costs may be rocket-high, not only the direct costs of spares but the indirect as well, such as breakdown, docking-time and man labor.

“In our service department, we see some disastrous examples of bearing heating problems, for instance, because of poorly executed pump overhauls with non-genuine parts”, Per Gudmand Jensen, Service Manager, IRON Pump A/S explains and continues, “it may be that internal measures do not comply with standards or IRON construction design or the impeller is made of a lower corrosion resistance material than our Standard Aluminum bronze. Perhaps a poor coating inflicts flakes of coat to float in the system, causing clogged coolers, valves, filters, and other system components.

Often, we even see that the pump has been modified to fit the non-genuine parts and, in these cases, you can almost be certain that neither new non-genuine parts nor our genuine parts will fit. This means that the crew will have to spend time modifying parts and pump again and hence other crucial maintenance on board might be neglected. This is the screw without end and ultimately the pump will break down with no option to repair.

It should be obvious to anybody that the initial investment in genuine parts by far is worth it once compared to the challenges, risk of break-down and failure non-genuine parts cause”, Per Gudmand Jensen finishes.

Susanne Dall Qvist Jensen, Sales Representative, After Sales, assists customers worldwide in getting the correct spare parts for their pumps. “Thankfully, we have many loyal customers who understand the value of genuine parts. But we do come across non-genuine and copy parts. Customers must understand that all IRON pumps are made to order. This means that every pump is designed to match the customer’s needs and of course, this goes for our genuine spare parts as well. They are manufactured to match the pump in question 100%! This pump perfection, and lifetime parts and service is what you purchase when you choose to buy and install a pump from us, Susanne explains and finishes, “With non-genuine parts, you can never be sure that the parts fit so why invest in such a high-end product only to allow third-party overhauls with non-genuine parts?”
