Royal Caribbean and Meyer Turku rely on IRON Pump for the worlds’ largest cruise ships

The Icon Class represents a new era in the cruise industry being the largest and most innovative cruise ships ever built.
As the supplier of water pump packages for all vessels in the series, IRON Pump plays an active role in constructing Royal Caribbean’s new industry leading ship series.
In 1996, IRON Pump delivered the first water pump package for a Royal Caribbean cruise ship marking the beginning of a partnership that would span decades and grow stronger with every new project.
Today, with pumps installed on 27 Royal Caribbean ships, and further vessels underway, IRON Pump continues to play an active role in expanding the cruise industry.
When Royal Caribbean and Meyer Turku initiated the construction of the Icon Class, they envisioned a fleet of cruise ships that would deliver exceptional guest experiences while adhering to strict environmental criteria.
As a long-standing supplier to Royal Caribbean, IRON Pump was the natural choice for the water pump packages and ready to meet the challenge.
The new collaboration began with Icon of the Seas, which entered service in January 2024. Supplying 91 centrifugal pumps for the water package onboard the Icon of the Seas, and 98 pumps for the second ship, Star of the Seas, IRON Pump worked closely with Meyer Turku’s engineers to ensure every pump was tailored to perfection. As the vessel design evolved, IRON Pump adapted and fine-tuned the solutions to fit seamlessly into the vessels’ complex systems.

Engineering excellence for dynamic projects
Supplying large scale pump packages for Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas is only the beginning. With the third and fourth ships in the series underway, IRON Pump continues to work closely with Meyer Turku.
This collaboration extends beyond simply providing equipment, it’s about building trust and working together to overcome challenges.
- Cruise ships are ongoing projects with continuous system adjustments and changes that demand immense flexibility and effective cooperation. Specifications can change at any moment, and we must respond immediately.
That’s where the strong relationship between IRON Pump and technicians at Meyer Turko really shines, says Robert Jensen, Sales Engineer at IRON Pump.
With a dedicated Service Manager and a responsive spare parts team, IRON Pump helps ensure that Royal Caribbean’s vessels stay operational, no matter where they are in the world.
The Icon Class is a game changer for the cruise industry, setting new standards in luxury, entertainment, and eco-friendly solutions. IRON Pump’s ECO-series pumps have been the preferred choice for the ICON class cruise ships.
Designed to comply with efficiency standards, these pumps deliver outstanding performance while reducing energy consumption. It’s a win win for both the environment and the ship operators, perfectly aligning with Royal Caribbean’s sustainability goals.
- Quality and efficiency are everything in projects like these. At IRON Pump, we are recognized for our accountability and adaptability.
Whether it’s troubleshooting an issue on-site or managing a project, our team is always ready to act, says Robert Jensen, Sales Engineer at IRON Pump.
